“In late 2019, most of the members of Illusionaut split off into different directions, and the project itself was forced into a hiatus.
In early 2020, a conversation between vocalist Ryan Cook and former drummer Logan Kennedy was had about potentially bringing the band back but with a different approach. The idea was to transition from the band as it was before to a group with a new vigor and a more mysterious presentation. After weeks of discussion, guitarist Andy Honer was recruited and the three went to work on writing and finding a sound that was unique and theirs but also consistent with the energy of the previous recordings. After several weeks of demoing ideas, the three went into the studio to begin production for their first record as a band reborn. Immediately following, bassist Cody Granger was added to round out the lineup. Once the new songs started taking shape, it was decided that the band would perform masked and their identities be hidden to keep their audiences focus on their message, and to add a more theatrical and ominous dynamic to their performance. “It isn’t about keeping our identities a secret”, explains drummer Logan Kennedy, “Most people that knew of the band before would recognize some of us, and there’s really no hiding that. The mask is to make the music less about the individual and ego behind the instrument, and more about the idea. If they can understand where we’re coming from musically and lyrically, who we are beyond that isn’t as important.”
Illusionaut will release their first single “Bella” on July 24, 2020 for their upcoming album releasing in late 2020.
